This verse is from the 503d song which was written by corporal Kenneth Brown of the Special Service Section, Regimental Headquarters and Headquarters Company, in November, 1942 aboard the Poleau Laut, the Dutch ship which transported the 503d to the Pacific. ▲
Private First Class James I. McClain, mortar platoon, F Company. McClain was lightly wounded. It was 503d practice that the term 'lightly wounded' covered everything less than critical. A person could lose an arm or leg and be yet classified as lightly wounded; however, in McClain's case the wound was not serious. ▲
