"Feb. 7. The company was alerted for coming mission (unknown). The battalion commander gave out with some dope about this mission, the 503, would get mucho publicity. In fact the men knew it was Corregidor by guessing & not officially. Equipment was packed & personnel restricted to regimental area, company consisted of 6 officers, 130 EM."

Rumors! We are alerted! This time it is all very hush, hush. Today they say it is Corregidor. This is hard to believe -- we will have the honor of retaking our fortress. This will make everything we have been through worthwhile.

10 February 1945

"Col Jones returned and information put out at a special meeting." The information put out was to staff and senior commanders. 10 February.

We jumpmasters all made a practice jump. A circle was formed with ribbons. I believe the circle was fifty feet in diameter, if my memory is correct. We were supposed to jump until we hit within the circle. The wind was not blowing, so most of us made it on the first try.  For those few of us who had already taken the Jumpmaster Course, it was a piece of cake. Unfortunately, for those who were to jumpmaster their aircraft, or their stick, the ease of this exercise would come back to bite them. It was the big leagues now, where minor errors of judgment could, and did, kill.
