The 503s PRCT bivouacs briefly
briefly in a coconut grove some 3 to 4 miles south of TACLOBAN.
We listen
to armed forces radio broadcasts in the afternoons. We do
not get the broadcasts directly. There is a
Navy communications party about 10 miles south of us, and some
go
down to it during the early hours of the morning to hear the radio broadcasting from the States. Before
this becomes known, a couple of our officers (3rd Bn) make some
shrewd bets on the football games. Their success ends when it is
discovered the afternoon games have been re-broadcast. (Recollection
of Jack Herzig.)
On 12 December 1944 we embark on LCI's for the Mindoro invasion,
scheduled for 15
December.
