E Co down James Ravine, then South along beach to meet at Rock Pt.  Contact made  at 1150 hrs.

On the 21st Don Abbott tells of the long line of vehicles they encountered on their patrol down into James Ravine and then south along the shore. Don remembers well the fire of the destroyer and the exactness of the Navy FO in giving corrections by feet. They had to cross over RC-6 and proceed up Grubbs Ravine along the south slope traveling along Grubbs Trail.

About 10a.m.,  we were moving down a path toward what we thought was a mine storage cave. We were in a single file. After several men had passed a certain point and apparently missed the mine actuator George Roberts triggered it. His leg was blown off about halfway to his knee. His other leg was bleeding profusely, too. Two aid men reached him quickly but couldn’t control the bleeding. George Roberts DOW that night in an aid station on Topside.
