THE
CASUALTIES AT MONKEY POINT PROJECT
This is a list which shows every prospect of
never being authoritatively completed. Its preparation was commenced by tracking names on
the 503d Honor Roll whose date of death was 26 February, and then
subtracting those known to have been killed other than at Monkey Pt. "A" Co and 1st Bn HHC were the two companies which suffered the
majority of casualties. 'A Company was hardest hit, being
reduced from 6 Officers/126 EM on 17 February to 2 Officers/42 EM's.
(Source Lt. Edward J. Callahan.)
The S-3 Periodic Report No. 11 cites the total
casualties as 156. Guthie (Three Winds of Death) writes of 196 casualties "in this action"
- 52 men killed and 144 injured. Devlin (Back to Corregidor, 1992,
St. Martins Press) gives the figure at 52 killed, and another 144
wounded.
Flanagan (Corregidor - The Rock Force Assault,
1995 Presidio Press) gives the figure of 54 dead and another 145
wounded.
