- Widely admired for his bravery as a soldier and his compassionate treatment of his men, Dr. Charlie Bradford  passed away recently.  (17 May 2000.) KIRK'S COLLECTION The US Army opened two POW camps on Corregidor in late 1945/1946. They needed workers to clean up the island, and the Japanese were safer from Filipinos taking pot-shots at them. (Series of 17 images)
