CORREGIDOR  -  16  FEBRUARY 1945

Chet Nycum ("G" Co.) recalled looking down on the Claxton that morning:

"I saw the destroyer move in position - she was moving East and was just off the eastern end of Black Beach.  The Skipper put her in reverse,  backed back a short distance while the  machine gun was raking her deck, then stopped, laid the guns on target and fired.  The second salvo quitted the Nip position. After the machine gun went quiet, there were too many other things to concentrate on."
