The general plan of attack has already been discussed. To summarize its details, there were three separate phases. The first wave of paratroops jumping at "H" hour was to drop in the center of the Jap position and secure Top-Side. While one company of this force held the jump field against possible counter attacks, the other two were to move toward an eastern crest from which they could pour their fire on the emplacements of Malinta Hill opposite them. This would help prepare the way for the second phase, beginning at H plus 2 hours, when the reinforced battalion of the 34th Infantry would make their beach landing under strong naval and air support. Included with them would be some tanks, service troops, a collecting company, and the 18th Portable Surgical Hospital. The third phase would follow an hour later when the second Parachute Infantry Battalion would drop on Top-Side as reinforcements.
