PARACHUTE QUALIFICATION
For parachute units to be
created, parachutists had to be trained to fill them. The basic
parachutist qualification course conducted at Fort Benning during WWII
evolved from the experiences of the Parachute Test Platoon (many of whom
ended up with the 503d PIR), the 501st Parachute Bn (which became the
1st Bn of the 503d PIR) and the work of the Provisional Parachute Group.
The course consisted of four stages, each lasting one week. |
