A JAPANESE CEREMONIAL PARADE

A Japanese  platoon marches purposefully through a crowd of Americans and Filipinos milling aimlessly about. Members of the platoon are wearing small white boxes suspended by white ribbon around their necks.

Japanese dead had one hand cut off, and the bodies were then cremated. The hand would be cremated separately and the ashes returned home to the soldier's family.

We believe that this parade of white boxes is a part of this ceremonial process.
