Corregidor at the turn of the century  was a place of finesse and culture.  The dress with the starched butterfly-style sleeves is called a "Maria Clara" and  is the Philippine National costume.  Officers moving to Corregidor were advised not to purchase furniture because of the good quality  rattan  furniture available locally at  very reasonable prices.  (National Archives Photo)
