In the course of our website project to complete the 503d KIA WWII listings, Dan MacRaild  raises the entry of Luttrell, Marton A, G Co. 503d, Negros which is reproduced at http://corregidor.org/taps/control/kia_full_listing.htm

I do not have the basis upon which this entry was included in the KIA list by Don Abbott.

Dan has discovered that there is no Marton A. LUTTRELL,  as spelled in the KIA list. (Misspellings in the list are not unusual.)   There is, or rather was, a Marion Aurther LUTTRULL – note the difference in spelling of both the Christian name and the Surname (a single transposed letter in each.)

The details of his headstone from the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Kennett, Dunklin County, Missouri are:

Description: Marion Aurther Luttrell

MARION A LUTTRULL
MISSOURI
PFC 739 AAA GUN BN CAC
WORLD WAR II
JAN 24 1917 – MAY 11 1945

And of his family memorial,

Description: Marion Aurther Luttrell

37407337
Marion A
1917-1947
LUTTRULL
KILLED IN ACTION ON NEGROS ISLAND

Does anyone recall the circumstances of why he may have been included in the 503d KIA List? Being Coast Artillery Corps, could he have been attached as a forward observer?

We do undertake to keep sensitive circumstances  “off the record” if anyone has concerns.
