Homer Patterson was wounded as his patrol walked along Rock Point Trail on
the north side of Grubbs Ravine. He was a quiet soldier who never
complained. Well-liked, he was missed by men and officers. He died before he
could reach the battalion aid station. Richard Lampman, one of the party
running a mile in the hot sunshine carrying him, said that was the most
saddening experience he went through during the entire war. No one of the
patrol argued with him.
