The necessity of packing parachutes led to the construction of a
purpose-built shed in Gordonvale. As the North Queensland had a
distinctive wet season, the shed was air-conditioned. Originally all
paratroopers were aught to pack parachutes, but this required
frequent practice to maintain proficiency. Ultimately, a
number of Australian women were hired and trained in the craft. Here
an inter-service committee inspects the process. The concrete floor
of the shed still survives at Gordonvale, where it is a used as four
