The Zephyr was a a diesel-powered railroad train built in 1934 for
the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy (CB&Q), which featured extensive
use of stainless steel. It set a a number of speed records (112.5
mph when the US land speed record was 115 mph.)
Whether the pilot
of the C-47 had in mind the "Silver Streak", is not known.
