Because of the humid climate, the glue in wooden
furniture tended to soften and the furniture would come apart.
Rattan and wicker furniture survived the climate better and could be
purchased cheaply in Manila. Native grass and hemp mats were the
choice for floor coverings, even in the church. These also came from
Manila.
