THE C. R. SMITH COLLECTION
One of the way things are -- and won't ever change -- is
that most people, most of the time, do not write the names of the faces
who appear in their photographs. Nor do they think it necessary to write
where the photographs were taken. Worst of all, they don't even write
their own names when they appear in a photo -- that would be silly and
egotistical, wouldn't it? Well, no, it would be a service to the next
generation. The years go by, and they forget - or worse, the photographs
become orphans when they die, set adrift in a world that no longer
remembers the unidentified, and now unidentifiable faces. Such were a
number of images which came into our possession via Margie Linton,
long-time stalwart of the 503d PRCT Association of WWII Inc. Until we
can get someone to have an identification session with this collection
we can only guess at most of them. At least we know that this is
C. R. Smith's collection -- though whether he might be pictured here, we
don't know. Amongst these images, we have only attained three confirmed
identifications, Ted Essig, Clyde Morr and Frank Barborich, all of "A"
Company.
