THE SALVATION ARMY CANTEEN

.
Having a break at the Salvo's Canteen, Wester kneels at right. The sign reads:

PLEASE DON'T SIT ON TABLES
PLEASE DON'T THROW SCRAPS
OR COFFEE ON GROUND
PLEASE RINSE PANNIKINS
AFTER USE

The Salvation Army sign reads " IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE AUSTRALIAN COMFORTS FUND" .

The Australian Red Cross provided no front line comforts as they believed it conflicted with their neutral status. The Japanese didn't care for such niceties. Consequently, I never heard an unkind word against the "Sallies" or the "Salvos."
