At the far western end of the athletic field which was Landing Field "A", are three buildings which marked the boundary of safe territory. Pre-war, they had been the married quarters for NCO's and enlisted men. On the far side of the buildings, the Japanese were firmly in control and to land there was at a great risk of a mortal wound. . On the eastern side of the building, the troopers of the 503d held sway. There was literally the width of a wall between the opposing sides. Although the Married Qtrs. were two levels, they were down a small embankment facing Beltline Road, and give the impression in this photograph that they are on only a single level. Though the photograph is blurry, it appears that a trooper who has just landed (at the bottom right of the photograph) is commencing to regain his feet.
