Sunday the 26th through Wednesday the 29th, the 34th Infantry Regiment in camp Beauregard, Louisiana. Rest period. Thursday the 30th 8:15am, 34th Infantry Regiment left Camp Beauregard, Louisiana. 5:45pm, arrived Vicksburg National Military Park and Cemetery, Vicksburg, Mississippi. Distance 170 miles motor convoy attached to Tank Brigade. Friday the 31st 34th Infantry Regiment left Vicksburg, Mississippi, enroute to Meridian, Mississippi by motor truck. Distance 135 miles. For the 34th Infantry Regiment, Colonel Charles B. Elliott is the commanding officer. For ‘B’ Company, Captain Leander D. Syme is the commanding officer and Raymond Riley is the 1st Sergeant, 92 enlisted men assigned. The number of enlisted men by rank is as follows: 1st Sergeant: 1, Sergeant: 10, Corporal: 10, Private First Class: 26, Private: 45. Note 1: As a result of the May maneuvers, several senior tank experts, including Colonel George S. Patton Jr., recommended the Army create separate armored divisions that could operate unencumbered by infantry or horse cavalry units. The recommendation was forwarded to Army Chief of Staff General George C. Marshall, who quickly established a special armored training school at Fort Knox, Kentucky. There would be other maneuvers in the Louisiana–Texas area, with the largest being held in September 1941, with over 400,000 troops. The September 1941 maneuvers were designed to evaluate Army training, logistics, doctrine, and commanders. Headquarters, Headquarters Company and Service Company of 34th Infantry, approximately five officers and 170 enlisted men, will return to Fort Benning, Georgia for permanent station. These units will become headquarters and service elements of the 67th Infantry (Medium Tanks). June 1940 Monday the 1st The 8th Division was reactivated with the new name of 8th Infantry Division. Headquarters Company, 34th Infantry Regiment left Montgomery, Alabama, enroute to Fort Benning, Georgia. Thursday the 6th, the 34th Infantry Regiment was inactivated. For ‘B’ Company of the 34th Infantry Regiment, all personnel (ninety-five in total) were assigned to ‘B’ Company, 1st Battalion, 67th Infantry (Medium Tanks) at Fort Benning, Georgia. ‘B’ Company’s personnel were assigned as follows: one Captain, one 1st Sergeant, eleven Sergeants, ten Corporals, 28 Private First Class, and 44 Privates.
