"..four rocket firing LCI(R)s (landing craft infantry,[rocket] which moved in to administer a drenching bombardment in just about every square foot of Bottomside. In between the time she was firing her hird and fourth salvos, LCI(R)*** was struck four times by enemy fire that killed several crewmen.But the stout little craft continued firing until her rocket magazines were emptied. Then she turned around and raked the beach with her .50-caliber machine guns while withdrawing to make way for the first wave of LCMs heading in for the beach."
