WWII US PARATROOPER'

I have been following your website
since it opened.
I am
reminded that
early after the arrival of our unit
(the 503d Parachute Infantry Regiment) in
Gordonville
we made
a practice jump on the
Tableland. Your troops were in the Middle East at
that time.
The people living in the area turned
out with forks, knives and anything else they could
use as a weapon, as they thought we were Japs. Had
we been the enemy all those people would have died
without the loss of one Nip.
My love and respect for the
Australian started that day. I can still see them
running toward us brandishing clubs, forks etc. with
total disregard for their lives, until they got
close enough to see that we were not the Japanese.
