I
learned later that Douglas had taken over as platoon scout after I was
wounded. I was told he leaped down into a ditch in front of a culvert
containing Japs and was killed by a 12 gauge shot gun. The culvert was
just north of Kindley Field. It was not a hundred yards from where I had
been wounded and was being evacuated.
