Light enemy naval units managed to sneek in under cover of an overcast and drop shells around the area,  but to no damage.  though there was plenty of sweating and praying.  Ourplanes charged them full price for their folly.  Preparations for possible Jap airborne of seaborne attack of island caused excitement.

 

31 D3c 44

Company moved to new perimeter across Bugnnaga River.  Co E releiving us at our former well prepared lines.  The old year leaves us now with 2 hits and 2 scores against the enemies and errors - muchoo

 

12 January 45

Nothing passes  Still no enemy activity.

Lt. Rucker made Captain a few days ago and is now reassigned to C Company. Lt. Gates is going to B co,  and Capt Bossert assumes command with Lt. Fickel exec. Officer.

 

17 January 45

Come off perimeter and began setting up another bivouac area.

 

31Jan 45

This month slipped away almost unobserved�routingpatrols with no enemy activity.  We are close to a nice river for swimming and laundry, and the campaign is officially brought to a close. Lt. Sullivan is assigned to A Co.

 

12 Feb 45

We prepare to leave our routine again  Briefed for The Rock

 

15 Feb 45

Tents struck prior to moving.

 

16 Feb 45

Draw chutes and rations today.  This compltes our last preparation for this rough but world watched jump.  Numerous new names on the plane loading lists, due to many of the old men becoming victim of scrub typhus and jaundice.

 

17 Feb 45

Boarded trucks in early morning darkness and were told just as the convoy started that a last minute change ordered us to land at San Mariveles and proceed by boat to Corregdor .  It was alternate a releif and disappointment among the company that we were not to jump.  Two of our planes were hit as we passed over the rock but no casualties. 

On Board APD again and land in the historic shad e of historic topside and came under enemy machine gun fire almost immediat4ly .  Heavy naval fire from ship off shore soon silenced the enemy  No casualties as yet.

 

18 Feb 45

On �Topside�  and in perimeter.  No enemy contact as yet.  Naval and aerial support active all over island.  Plenty of flies and very hot sun.  The whole place stinks.

 

19 Feb 45

Active infiltration and a heavy explosion,  causing several casualties.  A busy day and casualties from both sides resulting.
