-8- 27 August 44 Company starts setting up new camp area vicinity of Kamiri Drop Majority of company starts working on ship unloading detail at Kamiri Drom. Easy detail with great opportunity to stock the meagre larder of the company.  Detail lasts till 17 September at which time company moved to new camp site to take up garrison duties.   24 Oct 44 Time from 27 August spent in training and improving areas now things are in the wind.   7 Nov 44 Now area has been nice,  but the Combat Team has been alerted.  Packing is under way for a seaborne move.   9 Nov 44 Company boarded a swell ship for this move.  Officers and men off the USS Knox treated us fine for the time we were onboard.   14 Nov 44  Finally underway.   Good PX supplies abailabele aboard ship.  Chow fine.   18 Nov 44 Leyte Island  PI Landed on very rough beach and have lots of wet work getting our organizational property ashore.  As expected, the rear base commandoes put their claws on everything they wanted and sent the rest to the Co.  Result � no chairs, no tables. Wet and muddy place.  It later turned out to be a long hard road getting rations in from sub-base at Dulag.  A kindred unit move in as we do 11th A/B Division. later entering combat for the first time on this ilsand.   1 Dec 44 Boarded USS APD 61 for another �go� but it was SNAFU and back to rebuilding our area.   12. December Saying good by once more to Leyte where after some good Thanks giving turkey, lots of rain and one false start we finally start tfor this company�s first beach landing, aboard USS APD 22 This trip is through really dangerous waters.   13 Dec 44 Got our fir st glimps of the Jap Kamikaze Corps in action. one of our cruisers was damaged,  and there was one le ss son of heaven.   15 Dec 44 Mindoro PW   A �Sunday� landing, quickly followed by a general advance to our objectives with no opposition.  We never fully realized just how the Navy goes about softening up a beach prior to a landing, but we did now.  This was the main topic of conversation for weeks to come.  Plenty of air activity in dangering ships.  They took a beating quite unus ual.  Scattered nuisance bombing at night and lots of interesting dog fights by day, some of them barely over our fox holes.   25 Dec 44 Steady diet of hard rations finally brokedn by a single peice of fresh turkey deleivered to our foxholes.
