THE WORKERS
HOUSING AREA AT THE INSULAR LUMBER COMPANY AT
FABRICA -
The lumber mill had been one of the largest mills in the
world, and was surrounded on three sides by a river which
was used to transport the logs to the mill. The finished
lumber was then sent to the port by rail. It was not as if
the Japanese prisoners needed to be locked behind barbed
wire to prevent them from escaping - they knew full well
that they were there as much for protection from the
Filipinos. (The lumber mill is now long gone today, but the
workers' housing remains. )
